Meet Your Job

Reporting to the Manager of Engineering and Equipment Product Development, you will work as part of a team responsible for the development and operation of f’real’s equipment products. You will interact with a diverse group of personnel within f’real and will be required to establish and maintain effective working relationships with his/her immediate work group, f’real at large, as well as personnel from outside subcontractors and suppliers. 


Informal mentoring of other engineers (mechanical, electrical, software, etc.) will be important and expected on an as-needed basis. Explaining technical trade-offs and assisting with the decision-making process in conjunction with technical and non-technical associates will be required. 


The immediate work group is a cross functional team consisting of mechanical, electrical, software, manufacturing engineers, technicians, drafters, and an industrial designer. Understanding and responding to the needs of other work groups such as our customer support team and marketing teams is required. 


Outside of f’real, there will be opportunities to work directly with vendors and sub-contractors (and their production personnel) and visit installation locations to understand and respond to customer and consumer needs.


Primary Responsibilities

Key Area #1 – Design, troubleshoot, rework PCBs and schematics

  • Create new designs and modify existing designs within a system level context. 
  • Modify and debug existing equipment to meet design and reliability requirements through the change control process. 
  • Electronics troubleshooting with oscilloscopes and related tools. 
  • Provide advice and guidance to others in the operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of existing and new products. 
  • Prepare and carry out protocols for design verification, system characterization, and validation testing. 
  • Collect and analyze data. 
  • Prepare reports, and presentations of results, propose and carry out solutions. 
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards appropriate for the product under development (UL, TUV, FCC, CE, IEC, CSA). 
  • Select electrical components. Create BOMs. 


Key Area #2 – Design and troubleshoot electro-mechanical systems

  • Act as an individual contributor providing engineering input to the teams. 
  • Act as Project Manager for cross-organizational teams. 
  • Lead a project team or participate in one, to define and organize the projects; develop work breakdown structures, project schedules, and risk management plans. 
  • Track and manage the projects, plan and take adaptive action, prepare status reports. 
  • Participate in hardware and firmware design reviews.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering 
  • Five or more years of full time experience as an Engineer responsible for design and support of equipment in a production environment. 
  • Hands on experience troubleshooting electronics in a microcontroller driven system 
  • Familiarity with UL, TUV, FCC, CE, IEC, CSA requirements for equipment development 
  • Familiarity with positioning systems, embedded control systems, Linux. 
  • Strong electromechanical and control system troubleshooting skills. 
  • Experience in digital and analog circuit design. 
  • Able to prepare, read, analyze, and interpret common technical and manufacturing documents. 
  • Working knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and programming principles. 
  • Project management skills are a plus. 
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills, able to effectively present information to technical and non-technical groups. 
  • Data analysis skills, report writing, and data archiving. 
  • Experience in wire harness design. 
  • Organized, with excellent follow-through, yet flexible. 



  • BS/MS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering required, advanced degree desirable 
  • 10+ years of professional experience in developing commercial products, UL/NSF experience required 
  • 3+ years managing an engineering team required 
  • Working knowledge of micro-processor controlled equipment, including: electro-mechanical systems, embedded controllers, A/C D/C motors, fluidics, thermal control, etc. 
  • Working knowledge of common manufacturing processes and practices; LEAN, six-sigma, SPC desired 
  • Able to prepare, read, analyze, and interpret common technical and manufacturing documents 
  • Excellent management, interpersonal and problem solving skills 
  • Fluent with common CAD, CAE, PDM/PLM, and office productivity tools 
  • Positive and fun outlook…we’re in the milkshake business after all! 


Job Requirements:

  • Occasional travel required for field visits, customer and company meetings.
