Shift Start Time:          6pm 

 

SUMMARY:

Conducts, maintains, tests and repairs electrical/electronic systems and components. Applies knowledge of electrical principles in determining equipment malfunctions and restores equipment to operation. The Electrical Technician ll is expected to work on electrical projects and electrical maintenance with minimal supervision. Is also expected to install and maintain high voltage up to 600vac and low voltage down to 12vdc. The position would also require the ability to install and maintain various components of electrical controls and automation.

 

MAIN DUTIES:

  • Plans, installs and repairs a wide variety of complex electrical equipment, including automatic machine and process controls, control centers and panels, relays, circuit breakers, and electronic controls
  • Requires a thorough knowledge of electrical/electronic theories and principles, writing specifications, local and national electrical codes, properties of various materials, and principles of operation
  • Installs, starts up and shuts down equipment in accordance with company safety procedures and OSHA requirements; uses Lock–out, Tag-out
  • Advises Line Operators and Mechanics of operational procedures and requirements for working safely with electrical/electronic equipment and components
  • Informs appropriate management and mechanics of potential electrical/mechanical problems and inherent dangers involved
  • Supports the Maintenance department in their respective areas in matters pertaining to electrical, automation and control application/repair/optimization
  • Reads and follows electrical schematics for high voltage, low voltage and various control circuits
  • Updates knowledge and skills, staying current on available technology
  • Installs, maintains, troubleshoots and programs Motors, Drives, PLC’s, MCC’s etc.
  • Runs conduit and pulls wire to NEC standards
  • Maintains performance and maintenance records for identified equipment – eg downtime reports
  • Researches parts and fill out parts requests
  • Installs new equipment – works with outside contractors and makes sure they understand what’s required and that they follow all safety procedures
  • Performs PM’s (Preventative Maintenance) functions as directed
  • Interprets complex diagrams and schematics associated with manufacturing and support systems
  • Completes work through delegation and cooperation with indirect reports and teammates
  • Performs other assigned duties as required

 

 

SAFETY AND QUALITY:

  • Understands equipment hazards to prevent injury to self and others – understands company policies on safety and follow procedures – GMP’s, (Good Manufacturing Practices), HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point), PPE  (Personal Protective Equipment) Lock out/Tag out
  • Reports any food safety problems or potentially unsafe practices/conditions to the Lead or Supervisor
  • Is able to safely lift items up to 50lbs – motors, parts - asks for help when lifting heavier items
  • Recommends changes to improve safety standards
  • Is certified to use the motorized Pallet Jack, Fork Lift, Scissor Lift, Boom lift, Lock-out Tag-out – ensures safe operation of all machinery, tools and equipment
  • Maintains proper housekeeping and safety standards

 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • May be assigned to work in extremely cold or hot conditions
  • Most positions are located in areas with loud noise and will require the employee to wear protective ear plugs
  • Other conditions include flour dust, wet floors, occasional smoke and fumes if bread burns, occasional fumes from cleaning chemicals (ammonia)
  • Main activities will be frequent walking, occasional lifting and standing and some sitting, pulling, pushing and climbing
  • May also require performing some work in cramped or confined spaces

 

 

SCOPE: 

  • These positions have no supervisory responsibilities
  • Works as a team member and supports others when major problems occur
  • Works closely with Plant Supervisors and Leads, Automation and Controls Technician, Machine Operators, Fabricators, Mechanics and Vendors/Contractors
PURPOSE STATEMENT

Coordinate all Maintenance Department electrical project activities.  Responsible for the proper service and upkeep of all electrical infrastructure, all electrical control systems, operator interfaces and data recollection methods utilized threw out the facility.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/OUTCOMES
  • Designs and wires various types of industrial control panels for food processing and packaging equipment.
  • Executes the requirements of the work orders and processes material accordingly.
  • Utilizes drawings, specs and/or verbal instructions as well as exercising judgment and experience to plan and accomplish goals.
  •  Wire products using hand tools, machine tools and other equipment, as well as working with other departments.
  • Check quality of own work and be quality control minded.
  • Meet deadlines and document progress.
  • Must be flexible, dependable, time conscious, and be able to move from project to project with minimal supervision.
  •  Works closely with the plant engineer and perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or equivalent required, degree in electrical engineering preferred

Minimum of 5 years’ experience working as an electrical technician

Experience reading blueprints and technical drawings

Experience fabricating, assembling, wiring and installing electrical panels

Experience troubleshooting PLC’s using Logix software

Experience troubleshooting and installing advanced safety circuits

Experience troubleshooting and installing VFD’s

Solid working knowledge of all code requirements

Ability and willingness to follow all legal and company safety regulations

Ability to use hand tools, air tools, and power tools.

Ability to bend and install types of conduit.

Ability to interface with other departments to accomplish tasks.

Ability to communicate professionally, both verbally and in writing.

Maintain a clean work area as required.

Working ability to apply all applicable safety requirements to comply with regulatory agencies.

They shall be familiar with different types of electrical controls including PLC’s, VFDs, safety controllers, motor controls, transformers, and others.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical capabilities an associate must have to perform the essential functions of this position are:

  • Moderate to high degree of physical activity
  • Continuous standing and frequent walking
  • Occasional stair/ladder climbing and elevated work
  • Frequent kneeling, crouching, bending
  • Works in wet environment
  • Works in high noise area
  • May handle potentially hazardous equipment and materials
  • Requires lifting not to exceed 50 lbs.
  • Occasional testing of energized electrical equipment
  • Occasional work in freezer environment, where temperatures can reach –25°F
