PURPOSE STATEMENT

As a Multi-Skilled Operations Engineer at a leading food manufacturing company, you will play a key role in maintaining and improving plant machinery. 
Your responsibilities will involve performing breakdown repairs, executing planned preventative maintenance, and contributing to project work. 
Your efforts will be essential in ensuring that all products are manufactured in accordance with safety, legal, and customer quality standards.

This role will be 40 hours working Friday to Monday, with start and end times as required

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/OUTCOMES

Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance: Adhere to and promote all Company Occupational Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) policies and procedures. Ensure full cooperation with all aspects of HSE and take proactive steps to address any identified issues or gaps in the system.
Health & Safety Legislation: Maintain compliance with Health & Safety regulations, industry standards, and Rich Products internal procedures, with a strong focus on achieving zero lost time accidents.
Quality and Compliance: Uphold the highest standards of quality and compliance, ensuring that all safety, quality, and legal requirements are consistently met.
OEE Improvement: Continuously work towards improving Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE) by minimizing machine breakdowns and enhancing the performance of factory machinery.
Continuous Improvement (CI): Propose, implement, and review continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing downtime, improving machine reliability, and minimizing waste.
Data Recording and Analysis: Accurately input and record data to facilitate detailed analysis for targeted improvements. Ensure that all legal compliance and regulatory records are properly maintained.
Team Communication and Collaboration: Foster strong communication and collaborative working relationships with production, engineering, technical, and hygiene teams to prevent conflict and confusion, promoting a smooth workflow.
Maintenance System Performance: Monitor and report on the performance of the planned maintenance system, focusing on downtime accuracy, maintenance compliance, and improvements.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with other departments to ensure equipment and processes are optimized in line with best practices, driving improvements that align with operational performance KPIs.
Design for Manufacture: Support the design and modification of equipment, promoting improvements in product design and operational processes for greater efficiency.
Innovation in Maintenance Practices: Investigate and apply innovative methods to enhance the performance of equipment and reduce energy consumption, focusing on breakthrough thinking and preventative maintenance techniques.
Knowledge Sharing and Development: Continuously broaden your engineering and operational expertise and share knowledge across the organization to improve overall team performance.
Problem-Solving and Process Improvement: Support root cause analysis (RCA) activities, coaching teams on problem-solving methodologies and driving process improvement initiatives.
Maximizing Machine Optimisation: Ensure machines operate at peak performance through engineering-driven continuous improvement efforts aimed at reducing breakdowns and minimising minor stoppages.
Autonomous Maintenance Support: Support the implementation and execution of autonomous maintenance strategies, empowering teams to take responsibility for the upkeep of equipment.
Collaborative Problem Solving: Work cross-functionally with teams across the organization to systematically identify and resolve issues, while sharing knowledge and contributing to the company's long-term strategic goals.
Quality Standards Adherence: Ensure that all production specifications and quality standards are met in line with customer and regulatory requirements.
Compliance
You are required to always comply with all Rich Products Health and Safety policies and procedures.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

Critical 

  • Proven experience in reliability/production engineering within an FMCG manufacturing or packaging environment.
  • Strong electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic understanding with the ability to conduct full root cause analyses (RCAs).
  • Demonstrated use of Continuous Improvement (CI) and Lean principles to implement operational improvements.
  • Proficiency in reading and updating electrical and mechanical drawings.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation (e.g., LOLER, PUWER, PAT testing, Electricity at Work Regulations, COSHH).
  • Knowledge PLC technology.
  • Completion apprenticeship or graduate scheme.
  • Level 3 certification in Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
  • Qualification in 18th Edition IEE Regulations.
  • LOTO procedure (Lock off Tag out)
  • Competent in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Desirable 

  • Familiarity with maintenance management systems.
  • Knowledge of TPM principles 
  • Experience with Condition-Based Monitoring (CBM) techniques, such as thermographic and vibration analysis.
  • Fabrication skills (including welding).
  • Experience with electrical supply and distribution installations in industrial environments.
  • Understanding of Lean tools and techniques.
  • Experience with lathe and milling machines.
  • IOSH qualification.
  • HNC/HND qualification.
  • Level 3 certification in Leadership.
