Purpose Statement

A production palletizer/heavy lifter will be responsible for unstacking, stacking, picking up and inspecting multiple items.

Key Accountabilities and Outcomes

A Heavy Lifter will be responsible for:

  •  Unstacking pallets of ingredient materials and dumping the contents into washers, grinders, sifters, or other such machinery: these bags or boxes weigh between 10 & 65 pounds for an 8 hour shift.
  • Unstacking bags of bread or batter mix and dumping contents into blenders, tubs, or other machinery; these bags weigh approximately 50 pounds; some bags must be lifted and dumped at waist level, in other areas at shoulder level for an eight hour shift.
  • Picking up small amounts of ingredients such as cheese, fish portions, or toast using either a scoop or their hands, and placing these ingredients on a conveyor belt.
  • Using both hands, and reaching approximately 18-20 inches across the conveyor, arranging or aligning food products on the belt to achieve optimum "loading" for proper breading, frying, or freezing.
  • Inspecting product at various points on the conveyor, and using knowledge and training about the visual quality guidelines, sorts and picks out unacceptable products and places this in the proper "inedible" container.
  • Picking up bags of product weighing from 1/2 pound to 10 pounds and placing these into the final box or case, placing it on a conveyor to go through a taping machine or to be hand-taped.
  • Tape cases using a hand-held application machine.
  • Stacking of finished product cases in a specific pallet pattern on a pallet.
  • Wiping down food processing conveyors or tables with cloths.
  • Sweeping food debris, picking it up with a dustpan, and placing it in the proper waste container.
  • Disposing of material, pushing carts or carrying tubs of waste materials to proper disposal areas.
  • Using a low-pressure water hose to wash down the last traces of food debris down the drain, consistent with plant waste water and sanitation policies.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Basic business requirements: attendance, punctuality, good work habits, good personal hygiene
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Some computer knowledge
  • No previous work experience required; however prior work or volunteer experience is desirable
  • Willing and able to understand and accept instruction, follow directions, policies and rules
  • Effectively communicate with peers and superiors
  • Work in a safe and efficient manner
  • Work effectively with other people in a work group or team
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs through-out the shift
