PURPOSE STATEMENT

Come and join a creative team of Food Science professionals dedicated to developing delicious new food products.  Rich’s currently has an excellent opportunity for a Product Development Co-Op in the Research and Development department at our world headquarters in Buffalo, NY. This position is within Rich’s Bakery department, which develops frozen breads, cookies, biscuits, and cinnamon rolls for Food Service and In-Store Bakery customers.  The duration is 8-12 months starting in May 2020 and ending in December 2020 or April 2021.

 

This opportunity is open to U.S. or Canadian citizens and is located in Buffalo, New York, near the Peace Bridge. Easily accessible from Buffalo and surrounding areas as well as Fort Erie, Niagara Falls, and St. Catharine’s in Canada.  If Canadian, Rich’s will work with a third party to procure working student visa. The work visa will allow the student the choice to live either in Buffalo or surrounding areas of Canada.  This opportunity does not include housing.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/OUTCOMES

The student will participate in a variety of research and development projects related to bakery products.  The candidate will independently conduct routine analytical evaluations of food, maintain their own project(s), and assist other developers with project work.  They will maintain an electronic lab notebook and document laboratory testing conducted and record results/analysis. They will organize and prioritize tasks related to project work, summarize results in reports when required and assist in interpretation of data from experiments. Students will be encouraged to improvise in the application of procedures and methods during such experiments as appropriate.  Students will also be encouraged to innovate and prepare new food products.  Culinary experience and/or interest is an asset.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

Preference will be given to those who are pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Food Science/Biological Science OR related field.  Good grade point average required.

Excellent Microsoft Office skills. Must be a U.S. or Canadian citizen to qualify for this opportunity.  

Has ability to work independently and with others.  Demonstrate effective time management. Demonstrate ability to collaborate with a high level of motivation and drive to successfully complete work assignments.
