In this role, you will perform routine research and development activities concerned with the chemical, biological and/or physical nature of food in order to evaluate and improve the quality of existing products and related processes and to develop new products and processes. 


  • Manages and conducts multiple, independent and complex food development projects, typically of significant impact to the business, requiring considerable resources (people, time, money, etc.)
  • Designs and executes experiments, analyzes and interpret data to make sound technical recommendations for specific projects
  • Interfaces and collaborates regularly with various internal departments (marketing, sales, purchasing, engineering) and customers in determining requirements and in accomplishing project milestones.
  • Prepares prototype food products using research lab, pilot lab, manufacturing facilities and equipment as required.
  • Provides solutions to a wide range of challenges by applying technical knowledge and experience
  • Sets up, operates and maintains pilot lab equipment
  • Designs and conducts shelf life studies, including product performance and analytical testing under various conditions
  • Travel our manufacturing plants within US, Canada and International regions, if needed, to support scale up and commercialization of products developed in the R&D Laboratory
  • Writes technical reports concisely outlining testing, method, results and recommendations
  • Maintains accurate, up to date, records in the electronic laboratory notebook and computer database that are repeatable and reproducible                                                                                


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Food Engineering or related field with 1+ years of experience in food preparation/food industry; M.Sc. in Food Science or Food Engineering is preferred
  • Product development and/or dairy and/or emulsion science experience. 
  • Culinary experience or expertise preferred
  • Knowledge of advanced mathematics and their practical application (eg. Statistical analysis)
  • Ability to write and deliver presentations of results to various group and make recommendations based on data
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office software
  • Ability to work effectively independently and with R&D peers, project team members and plant personnel to drive results.
  • Strong communication, influence management and problem solving skills
  • Travels regularly (up to 30% of time)
