PURPOSE STATEMENT

As a  Product Development Scientist in our Bakery Division, you will join a team of talented associates and have the opportunity to make a difference from day one, both in innovating new products and improving existing ones. In this role you will get to work in our state-of-the-art labs and pilot plant as well as partner with sales/marketing associates and our key customers. Team members have the opportunity to not just commercialize their own new products, but  as their career progresses, to also have an impact on many of our other product categories. Accountabilities require the ability to successfully partner with others cross-functionally.  Work gets performed through Speed to Market (STM) or standardized business processes.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/OUTCOMES

  • Develops and implements the technical plans for multiple food development projects simultaneously.
  • Scope of technical accountability includes formulation and process parameter development.
  • Project work includes all phases of NPD development from initial prototype development, to pilot plant scale, to full scale commercialization.
  • Designs and executes experiments, analyzes and interprets data to make sound technical recommendations for specific projects
  • Prepares prototype food products using research lab, pilot lab, manufacturing facilities and equipment as required.
  • Provides solutions to a wide range of challenges by applying technical knowledge and experience
  • Collaboration with cross-functional teams and technical peers, throughout the development new products and processes
  • Develops and implements cost savings ideas through formula and process optimization.
  • Writes technical reports and documents daily laboratory work in an electronic laboratory notebook

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical/Food Engineering or Master’s in Food Science. B.S in Food Science or relevant field with min of 2yrs of experience
  • Willing to consider new or recent graduate with Co-Op or internship experience in product or process development
  • 0-5 years of relevant experience in the food industry. Product development experience in bakery, cereal, dough or processed grains preferred.
  • Previous intern or coop experience for new graduate candidates.
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills, including proficiency with presentations
  • Demonstrated ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
