As a Breakthrough Innovation Scientist, you will regularly work in an ambiguous space to bring new product and process ideas that will lead to game changing results for Rich Products.  In this role, you will work on products from concept to commercialization in the bread, dough, bakery and pizza categories. 


What makes this role exciting?  Some of the highlights of the Breakthrough Innovation Scientist role include:

  • Provides project leadership from the development through commercialization of new products and processes by working with cross functional peers. This includes setting the direction for how projects are carried out, developing project plans, identifying and organizing project teams, coordinating other resources to achieve goals, implementing plans, monitoring progress, and leading all communication of same within organization and outside of organization
  • Leverages internal and external resources such as co-packers, equipment vendors, ingredient vendors, and a personal professional network to develop sound technologies for new product innovations.
  • Rapidly develops prototypes of breakthrough products, based on the marketing charter from the front end innovation.
  • Develops technical solutions to complex and practical problems, learning new technologies and new ways to leverage existing technologies to create breakthrough innovations.
  • Connects the dots, to link technology with consumer insights to create breakthrough innovation with insulation from competition.


B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering or MS Food Science

6+ years’ product formulation and process development experience, preferably in bakery or processed grains

Strong passion for food & innovation

Experienced in  the development of innovative concepts through commercialization, with a solid record of accomplishments bringing new product innovations to market

Demonstrated ability to create clarity from abstract ambiguity in terms of developing unique executions against general innovation concepts

Demonstrated ability to work rapidly on multiple projects simultaneously, with shifting priorities, associated with the front end of innovation

Hands on ability to create innovative prototypes rapidly, for customer and consumer testing

Equally adept at doing formulation work in the lab and process scale up work in the plant, using existing and new processes

Proven Product development experience in the bakery or closely related area.  Additional experience in other food categories is a plus


PC / internet skills (Excel, Word, database, statistical software) and the ability to create spreadsheets, computer analysis, report writing

Travel up to 20% of time
