PURPOSE STATEMENT

The Senior Maintenance Mechanic will maintain, repair, and install new or replacement equipment. Likewise, performs and directs activities necessary to maintain grounds and building finishes and perform office relocation and other office layout support activities. In addition, the Senior Maintenance Mechanic will be required, at times, to guide, direct and coordinate the activities of contractors and other associates. 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/OUTCOMES

  • Assist in developing estimates for minor and major maintenance projects as required for code compliance and meeting organization standards.
  •  Senior Maintenance Mechanic will  take a leading role in the implementation of facility maintenance improvement projects (indoors and on the campus at large), under Director's supervision 
  • Serves as a lead HVAC maintenance mechanic by installing, maintaining and repairing heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems
  • Assists the department management team in assuring a safe working environment for Rich Products Associates, customers, and visitors. This will include but not be limited to keeping the Facilities Department spaces and operating areas clean and in compliance will all relevant codes.
  • Assists in orientating, training, monitoring and directing other Facilities department personnel
  • Participates in departmental meetings and training programs
  • Completes scheduled preventive maintenance and demand work orders as assigned and recommends changes to plant equipment and operations that would improve the environmental conditions for associates of Rich Products.
  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses HVAC and mechanical system malfunctions, Develop/ implement solutions and implements corrections. Inspects and critically evaluates the condition of all system components. Works on progress and completed demand work orders and preventive maintenance to insure the highest standards of operational performance and customer satisfaction.
  • Performs routine maintenance and testing on the boiler equipment and systems. Uses hand or power tools when performing tasks like replacing defective valves, filters, or steam gauges on a heating system.
  • Monitor the system during operation and attends to any additional problems, recording the service data in logs.
  • Makes manual adjustments to boiler equipment during servicing and adds chemicals dueing testing as needed
  • In an appropriate and safe manner, uses hand, power, and specialized tools, and tests equipment needed to complete the assigned activities
  • Remains current with the latest applicable codes, standards and regulations
  • Monitors HVAC systems and operations, and ensures that routine preventive maintenance is performed according to established schedules
  • Checks, repairs and/or replaces valves, motors, controls, switches, gauges, wiring, fans, pumps, compressors, condensers, cores, pipes and other functional components of the system
  • Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures and wears protective clothing required by the work environment or government regulations Works under minimal supervision

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

  • High school, trade or vocational diploma/degree required. Continued education in technical or apprentice school is preferred
  • Minimum of five years of maintenance experience (3 of which must be in a supervisory role), related to physical plant operation and maintenance is required
  • First class stationary engineering license, or above, is required
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively on a team
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally Demonstrated ability to read, understand, and interpret equipment manuals, written specifications, written and oral instructions and models/graphic illustrations such as: layout diagrams, blueprints, mechanical and architectural drawings, work sketches and schematic drawings.
  • Must be able to adapt procedure and process techniques to accomplish the requirements of the position
  • Ability to hear in order to detect warning signals and machinery malfunctions is required
  • Color vision and field of vision to read meters and gauges is required
  • Ability to work weekends and holidays as needed
     
  • Physical requirements include:
  • Will be periodically exposed to noisy environments while operating hand and power tools and while in the vicinity of air compressors and other equipment.
  • Ability to enter boilers for inspection purposes
