PURPOSE STATEMENT

The Sr. Manager, Technology Development will drive internal and external technology projects across several strategic business categories.  This leader will be responsible for translating both product and technology opportunities into early stage innovation projects focused on solving customer problems (current and emerging, unmet needs) centered on platform growth.  This key role will drive product/technology scoping, third party investigation of academic and industrial sectors, relevant to the company.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/OUTCOMES

 

  • Lead technical IP strategy for new technology projects and business development opportunities, in close collaboration with five Region Business leaders, Regional heads of R&D, Legal and other senior leaders within Rich’s as well as key industry partners.
  • Work with Product Category Teams on new platform development and Product Applications Teams leveraging Open Innovation partners to build commercialization opportunities utilizing both current and emerging capabilities.
  • Liaise with external technology partners and experts in close collaboration with Legal to initiate CDA’s and JDA’s for key projects.
  • Find technical solutions and innovation by bringing to bear a network of external experts and solution providers, technology leaders and IP search companies and represent Rich’s at Open Innovation conferences and conventions.
  • Connect internal partners across R&D technology platforms and the enterprise with external R&D groups to find optimal solutions to address customer-driven opportunities.
  • Lead Knowledge Management & Competitive Intelligence activities for technology activities.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in the technical aspects of product development by investigating, planning, executing, evaluating and reporting on new product / process development improvement and troubleshooting projects.
  • Initiate, investigate and implement significant new formulations, process improvements and cost savings projects.
  • Evaluate and recommend application of new ingredient / processing technologies.

The incumbent must be a highly flexible and adaptable individual who will create sustainable value and business growth by:

 

  • Creating and deploying a holistic approach to technology development that leverages best practices into an integrated market-based-management (MBM) open innovation capability.
  • Positioning open innovation within the company’s consumer products as “upstream” thinking relative to innovation and identifying the “unknown.”  Create a process to translate opportunities into an experimental discovery mindset.
  • Providing methodology and thought leadership to new and active categories across the company’s strategic portfolio.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science is required; Master’s degree is strongly preferred.
  • The ideal Innovation Leader will leverage a verifiable success track record with 7+ years of related and progressive R&D or product leadership experience including product commercialization.
  • Experience gained from working with external technology partners with a track record for commercializing the external or partnered technology is considered essential.
  • Working knowledge of intellectual property and patent strategies in a global business environment.
  • International/global food industry experience and demonstrated knowledge of and appreciation for requirements, preferably in Asian and Latin American countries.
  • Experience creating new product opportunities from inception to successful launch.
  • A demonstrated track record of building strong technology pipelines, developing, overseeing and managing external relationships that produced tangible results.
  • Experience building and developing technical teams; ability to develop technology strategies that support business growth.

 

  • Very proactive and a strong communicator, across many groups and constituencies.
