Operations Manager - Intermodal

Inspire, lead, actively manage and develop the intermodal operations team to achieve departmental and individual goals. This position will lead a group of Load Planners that are responsible for sourcing drayage and equipment carrier capacity for domestic marine container (small box) intermodal shipments.


•    Maintain a real-time (minute by minute) “pulse” on the team regarding all sourcing, negotiation and booking of shipments.
•    Identify, measure and track productivity of team.  Work with manager to identify key metrics and measurements of team.
•    Identify potential opportunities or problems and diagnose root causes.
•    Decision-making for, delegation, orchestration, and leadership of team.
•    Work with equipment providers to ensure adequate supplies are allotted to meet customer requirements on a daily and weekly basis.
•    Promote relationships with all equipment vendors and drayage partners
•    Work with various providers ensuring that rate structures are in place that will maximize ROAR’s profitability within our small box network.
•    Work with chassis providers to ensure adequate supply of chassis are available at both origin and destination rail locations.
•    Create and deliver accurate, high quality, and thoughtfully designed reporting to ensure that operational, revenue and profitability are maximized.
•    Ensure team is utilizing best routing options by working directly or indirectly with the ROAR Pricing team.


•    Extensive knowledge of the intermodal small box domestic market
•    Bachelor or Associates Degree in Logistics, and / or five or more years of experience in the logistics industry preferred, but not required.
•    Good computer skills with proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook Email System.
•    Work requires professional written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills.
•    Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment, with the ability to lead and inspire.
•    Must be comfortable and confident working in a fast-paced, dead-line driven, stressful environment.  Manage multiple projects simultaneously with a sense of urgency.
•    Ability to develop and execute actionable strategies that lead to operational effectiveness.
