PURPOSE STATEMENT

The Assistant Graphic Designer is an entry level design role focused on developing skills to design and develop packaging graphics for new products/platforms and acquisitions, as well as update and maintain packaging graphics for existing products.  Learn how to leverage technology to streamline digital asset management and maintain brand integrity.  Includes packaging/label graphics development/ updates, label reviews, facilitation and compiling information with external print vendors and design agencies and uploading digital assets in centralized repository.  The position is located on St. Simons Island.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/OUTCOMES

  • Produce finished artwork within Speed to Market (STM) schedule and specifications determined by Packaging Graphics Manager, Regulatory, Sales & Marketing, R&D and government agencies by using Macintosh computer system.
  • Develop in collaborating with Product/Marketing Managers facilitating the graphics execution of Speed to Market / New Product Development marketing projects and implement brand strategies.
  • Update and/or coordinate the development of primary and secondary packaging graphics for existing products; limited design, update and maintain packaging graphics on the Macintosh computer system.
  • Develop in collaborating with Graphic Designers and outside vendors to complete preliminary work on product codes and gather information and files from vendors when necessary.
  • Learn how to prepare proofs for all required internal and external needs following established brand and graphic standards, regulatory requirements and adhere to strict bar coding standards. Route project through workflow and obtain approvals from Regulatory, Marketing, Structural Packaging Engineers, Legal, and Customers. 
  • Provide approved graphics for printing.
  • Upload, maintain and organize graphic files on Cumulus Digital Asset Management System.
  • Populate purchase order spreadsheet as part of PO invoicing process.
  • Attend press approvals as needed.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor of Fine and Applied Arts degree, major in Graphic Design
  • 2+ years of experience in graphics development
  • Understanding of graphic design principles for print materials, including: typesetting, page layout, packaging graphic design, logo development, and printing processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional lines of business and support partners, as well as to work independently within the scope of the defined job function
  • Familiarity with digital asset management (Cumulus system) a plus
  • Demonstrated ability in attention to detail
  • Demonstrated success in multi-tasking and managing multiple priorities; working in a fast-paced environment where persistence and thorough follow-up is essential
  • Proofreading and editing capabilities with the ability to maintain enthusiasm and a professional demeanor through multiple review sessions and redrafts.
  • Strong verbal and written communications a must
  • Ability to travel up to 20%

Proficient level in working on Macintosh and PC platforms:

  • Macintosh:

    Artwork Development Software: Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator/Photoshop/InDesign/ Acrobat)

    PC software platforms:

    Parallels, MS Office software including Outlook, Internet Explorer, Word, Excel and PowerPoint  (Mainframe systems SAP, PLM a plus)
