PURPOSE STATEMENT

The Sr. Regulatory Specialist performs non-routine research and administrative functions to ensure Rich Products Corporation is in compliance with domestic and international food regulations.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/OUTCOMES

•    Manages and conducts multiple, independent and complex research projects, typically of significant impact to the organization

•    Reviews and approves ingredient, nutritional and handling information on complex product labels, applying a thorough knowledge of domestic and international food labeling regulations and religious certification laws

•    Researches both domestic and international regulations, interpreting regulations in response to internal/external customer requests and departmental requirements.  Recommends and advises new company policies as appropriate

•    Completes non-routine additive checks for products exported to various marketplaces, interpreting existing and changing food additive regulations.  Interpretations are documented and applied to future reviews, ensuring departmental visibility and consistency

•    Facilitates Product Registration/Certification Administration in various international marketplaces by interacting with government officials, interpreting food and registration regulations and determining applicability to RPC; Advises technicians of any changes to registration requirements

•    Maintains current awareness of applicable new legislation and industry trends and their impact on technical and business needs.  Understands governmental and religious laws

•    Determines product acceptability within NAFTA requirements and ensures products are correctly categorized for tariff calculations.  Demonstrates basic understanding of JECFA and the Codex Alimentarius Commission and how their work impacts industry standards and negotiations

•    Interfaces regularly with R&D developers to gain exposure and scientific understanding of products (e.g. attend product showings and cuttings, participate in cross-functional product teams)

•    Assists in the implementation and administration of the company’s Right Product/Right Label Policy, ensuring labels accurately reflect product formulas
•    Provides solutions to a wide range of difficult problems by applying advanced regulatory and technical knowledge and extensive experience

•    Maintains accurate, up-to-date records and databases

•    Performs other related responsibilities, as needed, to support Rich Product Corporation’s business objectives

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

B.S. in Food Science, Food Engineering or related field and minimum 4 years relevant experience
M.S. in Food Science, Food Engineering or related field  and minimum of 2 years relevant experience 

Strong PC / internet skills including Microsoft Office Suite

Proficient with relevant software tools (e.g. Optiva, Accolade, etc.)

Works well in a team setting

Strong communication skills

Travels regularly (up to 10% of time)
