Strategic Category Leader, Seafood

PURPOSE STATEMENT

Manages Rich’s Seafood category to ensure that Rich’s requirements for delivery, quality, cost and safety are met and that Rich’s Values are maintained throughout the supply base

  • Owns the relationship with assigned Global and /or Regional seafood suppliers
  • Drive suppliers to continuously improve the value they deliver to Rich Products Corporation.
  • Assess, manage, mitigate and avoid risk throughout the supply chain for assigned categories. 
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/OUTCOMES

Strategic Sourcing & Savings

•    Develop and maintain a long-term sourcing roadmap.  Execute sourcing events by developing and launching RFI/RFPs, developing a negotiation strategy.

•    Optimize total cost of ownership by identifying cost savings and joint process improvements that help drive efficiencies throughout the entire supply chain.  

•    Lead the identification and implementation of cost savings initiatives 

•    For larger sourcing initiatives, utilize the 7-step sourcing process to lead a cross functional team 

Supplier Relationship Management

•    Negotiates and maintains supplier agreements that provide the maximum total cost of ownership benefit.

•    Develop key supplier metrics that help drive consistent service levels from suppliers 

•    Develop and execute a strategy for assigned seafood categories that aligns with short and long-term business goals and leverages Supplier Relationship Management best practices.

Financial Risk Management

•    Analyze and interpret market information for translation into the monthly forecasts, including future biases and identification of financial risks and opportunities.   

•    Responsible for key financial analysis,  Develop and present market reports to key stakeholders including executive leaders, business leads and customers.

•    Leverage financial risk management tools to develop a short and long-term risk management strategy for key commodities that drive category prices.  

•    Demonstrate a strong intellectual curiosity by identifying and evaluating new financial risk management tools that provide predictable pricing and maintain strong correlations to underlying markets.

•    Analyze complex financial problems to evaluate supplier proposals, interpret market conditions and drive efficiency and productivity within the department.

•    Conceptualize a complex financial problem and utilize existing technology to develop a viable business solution.

Business Support

•    Support global partners by providing market expertise for shared markets, leveraging global suppliers to drive efficiencies and innovation, and collaborating on best practices.

•    Collaborate with and influence marketing and R&D to help drive innovation and commercialize new products

•    Review and interpret key supplier metrics to assist Quality Team in maintaining consistent material quality from supplier in assigned category.  Leverage supplier relationships to help address and resolve quality issues.

•    Support and provide leadership for the resolution of quality, service and financial issues for assigned categories.

•    Be a subject matter expert in key areas of seafood quality including food safety, domestic and internal regulations, sustainable practices, and food fraud.

Leadership

•    Provide leadership to other team members to mentor on and develop business best practices for processes such as Supplier Relationship Management, financial and supplier risk mitigation, and negotiations.

•    Be an advocate for Procurement's key business commitments including acting with a sense urgency, effectively communicating with key stakeholders, understanding the voice of customer and demonstrating leadership as the subject matter expert.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

•    Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field and  minimum 7 years job related experience in the seafood industry, or Master’s degree in related field with minimum 8 years job related experience in the seafood industry.

•    Be a demonstrated expert on domestic and global seafood market conditions related to assigned categories, as well as the key macroeconomic influences that drive market price fluctuations such as tariffs, international logistics, and environmental regulations.

•    Experience with complex data modeling and complex data management.

•    PC skills (Excel, Word, database, statistical software) and the ability to create spreadsheets, computer analysis, report writing

•    Demonstrates a strong understanding of seafood quality including food safety, food fraud, and responsible sourcing certifications.

•    Experience in global seafood markets which including a mastery of international logistics, ocean freight, brokerage and tariffs.  

•    International and domestic travel (40%).

•    Uses English as the business language within Rich’s.  Second language preferred but not required.
